Chelsea Green

An Ultra Wide Lens For Expressive Film Portraiture in Studio

I've been loving the use of ultra wide lenses for studio portrait work. This sequence of Chelsea shot on my Hasselblad 202FA with the 50mm F2.8 lens (about a 28mm equivalent on a 35mm camera). The wide lens allows me to get up close and personal with the subject. Instead of the subject simply expressing for the camera, it feels like they are expressing at the camera. You become immersed in their expression. You can feel it through the image. Shot on Kodak film, developed and scanned in studio, with some added effects by manually crinkling the film prior to development.
