My portrait work quickly became my playground when I started pursuing a career in photography. I attribute so much of my success in this industry to the personal work and projects I pursued, particularly, early in my career. A fascination with studio Bridal portraits quickly grew to encompass fashion, fine art portraiture, and eventually families. All of my portrait work is shot entirely on film and it all influences one another in approach, technique and the qualities that I value in a photograph. My portrait studio is located in Charleston, South Carolina and on occasion, I'll set up shop in Northern Michigan. I travel all over the country, and even the world, for my couples and family work - on location, in my home studio, or renting a studio space elsewhere. My portrait work is heavily influenced by fashion and the timeless, artful, and intimate aesthetic of the early fashion photographers of the 1950s and 60s - where connecting with the subject was just as much a part of the art form as were the technicals of composing a photograph. My location family portrait sessions are shot documentary style, focusing on movement, exploration and no forced posing. Browse some galleries, below, to get a feel for my approach and the aesthetic qualities of my portrait work. No project is too big or too small. Creativity and new experiences drive me and I'd love to share in this photography journey with you.
