Film Portraits for a Musician in Middle of Nowhere Northern Michigan
Erin Ivey and I connected over instagram in the summer of 2024. She's a country folk / western musician from Austin Texas but was spending time in Northern Michigan with her husband for the summer. Erin wanted some portraits for her upcoming album cover that were simple and felt like a magazine profile piece that could have been taken anywhere. My little town of Bear Lake, Michigan was the perfect backdrop, so we chose to shoot there. It's an old, fairly run down town, that could just as well be in Texas from the looks of things. We shot a mix of uptown and in the 1970s cottage where I spend my summer. These images are quite special to me. To be able to share a place so special, with another artist, was a truly beautiful experience. The session was photographed entirely on Kodak film.
